The Eastwood school community is incredibly saddened to share with you the news that Steve Hooper, Head of Guidance, passed away on February 2nd, as the result of cancer.

Mr. Hooper was a person who deeply cared about his students. He was a strong advocate for our most marginalized and at risk students. Mr. Hooper had a warm welcoming presence that made students and their families feel at ease.

Forming partnerships in the community was a strength of Mr. Hooper’s. He knew the importance of building relationships beyond the school in order to best serve our students’ needs.

Our thoughts are with his wife and children during this difficult time.

Our Guidance Counsellors, Social Workers, Administrators and members of the Board’s Critical Events Response Team began supporting our students and staff shortly after learning of Mr. Hooper’s illness. These supports continue to be available to our students and staff.

In honour of Mr. Steve Hooper, the flags at Eastwood Collegiate and the Waterloo Region District School Board will be flown at half mast this week.

Please check in with your child in the days to come. If you have any concerns about your child, please do not hesitate to contact an administrator to discuss options for support.

Sincerely,

Ryan Hume

Principal
