The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) is committed to ensuring that we’re supporting the needs of students when it comes to how we provide Chromebooks.
Devices for Grade 7 to 12 Students
For some students, a WRDSB-provided device isn’t needed for a number of reasons, including the availability of personal devices. With this in mind, we are introducing an opt-in process for students in Grade 7 to 12.
We remain focused on supporting the learning needs of all students.
Coming in May – Current Grade 6 to 8 Students Opt-In for 2026-2027
In May, parents, families and caregivers of WRDSB students currently in Grade 6 to 8 will receive an invitation to opt-in, if applicable, so their child may receive a WRDSB-provided Chromebook. Paper forms will also be available upon request from your school’s Principal.
You may also choose to provide your child with your own device. Recommended technical specifications can be found on our website.
Students with Special Education (SEA) devices are not required to complete the opt-in process. They should continue to use the device assigned to them.

Please note: For the 2026-2027 school year, the opt-in process will only be offered to students entering Grades 7 to 9 or those new to the WRDSB. If your child entering Grade 10 to 12 already has a WRDSB-provided Chromebook, there is no need to opt-in.
About WRDSB-Provided Chromebooks
- WRDSB-provided Chromebooks remain the property of WRDSB.
