Eastwood mourns Ms. Gwendolyn Turner

The Eastwood community mourns the loss of Ms. Gwendolyn Turner.  Ms. Turner had been a teacher in the History and Social Science departments at Eastwood for 21 years.  After a first career in Law, she began her tenure as an educator with the Waterloo Region District School Board in 1996 as a supply Education Assistant.  In 1997, Ms. Turner moved into teaching at Eastwood and has been a key member of the Eastwood community every since. During her time at Eastwood Ms. Turner supported students both academically and personally, including supervising the Tennis Team and clubs, running the Yoga club and because it was her passion, starting a Mindfulness club.

A passionate advocate for self care and compassion, Ms. Turner cared sincerely about her students and colleagues.  When she asked you how you were doing she truly listened and cared. She was a friend to many, and was well loved by her students. She nurtured each student’s passion for learning and motivated countless young people to explore studies in Sociology and Law.

In lieu of a funeral, Ms. Turner wished all who knew her to spend time with one another and to celebrate the goodness in life.

The entire Eastwood staff offers our deepest condolences to Lyn’s family and friends.
